One woman dead, a man injured in collision on Highway 3 near Bow Island

CALGARY – Bow Island RCMP were called to a two vehicle crash on Highway 3 around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

One woman was killed and a man suffered serious injuries in the collision.

It happened roughly 300 metres west of Highway 879 and 2 kilometres West of Bow Island.

RCMP say a Chevrolet pickup truck travelling westbound on Highway 3, approached an eastbound Ford sedan, when the Chevrolet crossed into the lane of eastbound traffic and into the path of the Ford.

The roadway is an undivided two lane highway at this juncture.

A middle aged woman, the driver of the Ford and lone occupant, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet, a middle aged man, suffered serious injuries and was transported to the nearest major hospital.

RCMP continue to investigate and say alcohol may have been a factor in the cause of this accident.

Highway 3 will be closed to east and westbound traffic while RCMP investigate.

Westbound traffic being routed north, and eastbound traffic diverted south.
