The Abbotsford Police Department is making quite an impression online by using humorous memes to raise awareness of driver safety.
The is the department’s third annual driving excuses campaign and they are all based on actual conversations Abbortsford Police officers have had with drivers.
They are rolled out on Twitter and Facebook by Const. Ian MacDonald who is a public information officer with the department.
He said he started the campaign after receiving mixed reactions to a video of a pedestrian accident that was being used to raise awareness of distracted driving.
Some complained the video was too graphic and MacDonald decided to address road safety with a message that included humour.
And there appears to be no shortage of anecdotes to go around.
So far, the campaign has received more than 100,000 page views.
It runs until the end of this week and you can follow them at @AbbyPoliceDept on Twitter and at Facebook.com/AbbyPoliceDept.
