WATCH: Keela Keeping with Union Gospel Mission talks about how to help the homeless population during the upcoming heat wave.
With hot weather on the way, the Union Gospel Mission (UGM) is asking people to donate items that will help protect those living on the streets.
UGM is trying to put together hot weather supplies for the homeless, but they are running short.
Keela Keeping with UGM says they have an urgent need for things like sunscreen, hats, summer clothing and bottled water.
“That will help to keep people protected in the heat and keep them hydrated,” says Keeping.

On Thursday, Environment Canada issued a special weather statement for Southern B.C., warning of a major heatwave across the region this weekend.
Keeping says while most of us have access to air conditioning and drinking water, the majority of the homeless people do not have those options available.
“For people who live in SROs, often it is hotter in those tiny apartments,” she adds.
“So we are looking for anything you think you would need when it is hot out, that’s what the people on the street need as well.”
Tangible donations can be dropped off 24/7 at the UGM headquarters at 601 East Hastings. Monetary donations can be made online at ugm.ca.
