City introduces free wi-fi in parts of Montreal

WATCH: Mayor Denis Coderre has announced the next phase in the Smart city program – free wi-fi for parts of the island.

MONTREAL – Wi-fi across the island? That could soon be a reality in Montreal as Mayor Denis Coderre announced Thursday the next phase in the Smart city program.

The Palais des Congrès and parts of Old Montreal will be the first places to access the network.

The entire program will take three years to implement.

“This initiative will contribute to boost the urban experience of citizens and make tourism more dynamic,” wrote Coderre in a written statement.

“To boost our offerings to business travellers during their time in the metropolis and accelerate the economic development of Montreal.”

MtlWifi is the latest of 70 projects in Montreal’s Smart and Digital City Action Plan.

According to the City, this will position Montréal as a world leader among smart cities.
