There was a heavy police presence in Langford Wednesday as city crews inspected an alleged biker clubhouse.

RCMP officers with semi-automatic weapons guarded the property as crews went in to inspect the home. The occupants were allegedly not following city bylaws with regards to renovations made to the house. According to police, the property has been linked to the Devil’s Army, a club associated with the Hells Angels.

“Our inspections are normally fairly straightforward and typically with the cooperation of the property owner or the occupant,” said Loren Fletcher with the City of Langford. “In this case, we had no cooperation at a previous visit, so we felt as though in order to do what we needed to do, by virtue of the Community Charter, we had to take this step, unfortunately.”

The clubhouse is in a family neighbourhood and close to a school, and the city has been under pressure from residents to seek a court injunction to shut it down.
