Man found dead downtown victim of homicide: police

WINNIPEG – Homicide is suspected in the case of a body found at the edge of the Red River in downtown Winnipeg Friday evening.

An off duty police officer found the body of an adult male at the water’s edge off Waterfront Drive near Lombard Avenue. Officers say the victim is 49 year old Jason Stinson, of Beausejour.

An autopsy was performed over the weekend and “as a result of that autopsy foul play is suspected,” Winnipeg police Cst. Jason Michalyshen said Monday. He said evidence of injuries or trauma was found.

“This is an open homicide investigation,” Michalyshen said. Officers are asking anyone with information about Stinson and where is was in the hours before his death, to call police.
