On Saturday, Gurpreet Najjar bought a used car.
On Sunday, Gurpreet Najjar got rid of a used car, burnt to a crisp the night before.
“It could be worse. Maybe I’m in the car,” said Najjar. “Accidents happen. You never know.”
Najjar bought the 2009 Prius for $3,000 on Saturday for his younger brother, Sukpal. The two work as mechanics, but Sukpal is often late for work, says Gurpreet, so he thought it would be a good gift.
“The car seemed fine, no problem, everything was checked,” he said.
But hours after he dropped it off at his friend’s house at Knight Street and East 30th Avenue, he got a phone call saying the car was smoking.
When he arrived, he found it virtually destroyed, with damage to the adjacent garage that he has to pay for as well.
Making matters worse is that Najjar was going to buy insurance for the car today. But he’s sanguine about the incident.
“It’s just an accident,” he said.
“If god wants it to be this way, it’s this way.”
