CALGARY – Three people—including a teenager airlifted by STARS—were taken to hospital after a crash in Chestermere on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash happened east of Calgary in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1 at Highway 791 at about 3:40 p.m.

A car heading northbound on Highway 791 stopped at a stop sign, then proceeded into the intersection. Another car with a 17-year-old male and female teenager was heading eastbound and hit the car in the intersection, then hit another truck also heading eastbound on Highway 1.

The 17-year-old had to be extricated from the car, then was airlifted to Foothills Medical Centre by STARS air ambulance in life-threatening condition. The female teen was taken to Foothills by ground paramedic crews in serious but stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The woman in the car that was heading northbound on Highway 791 was taken to Peter Lougheed Centre in stable condition with minor injuries.
