Lost Teddy Bears look for owners after annual Winnipeg picnic

Do you know any of these bears? A group of toys lost at the Teddy Bears' Picnic in Winnipeg are looking for their owners. Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba

WINNIPEG – They’re safe, warm and well-cared-for, but a group of stuffed animals left at the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic would like to go home.

Staff collected any stray toys after the picnic and are feeding them well and tucking them in at night, said Tanya Williams, the foundation’s communications director.

“We have so many of them this year. We need to reunite them,” Williams said Wednesday morning. “They sleep in our office because it’s nice and warm, and no one will bother them.”

Several hours after the story hit the Internet, seven of the toys had been claimed — but there are still a number of bears waiting for their owners.

Williams, a mother herself, knows how important childhood toys can be.

“A lot of them are handmade, by the looks of it.”

She’d like to see more scenes like one that came as volunteers were packing up the picnic at Assiniboine Park on Sunday.

“Just as we were closing, a father ran across the field,” she said. He was looking for a white teddy bear.

“One of our volunteers was actually holding it,” she said. “It was such a beautiful moment.”

Williams sent a photo of the bears with their message:

“We were left behind
But we are fine
And in good care at the Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“Please spread the news
Back to our friends
So we can be reunited in a happy situation.”

Anyone who recognizes one of the toys should contact the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Manitoba at 204-787-4000.
