WATCH ABOVE: Alberta Sports Hall of Fame welcomes 2015 inductees
CALGARY – One team and eleven people who’ve left a sports legacy in the province were inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame on Friday.
Among them, many familiar faces from the Calgary Flames, legendary NHL trainer Jim “Bearcat” Murray, and former “Voice of the Flames,” Peter Maher.
Both Murray and Maher told Global News it’s a huge honour, and being inducted together makes it much more special.
Here’s a list of the 2015 inductees:
Bill Warren: leader and champion for Canadian and Olympic sports
Kevin Martin: curling champion
Peter Maher: “Voice of the Calgary Flames”
Bruce MacGregor: hockey player
Jim “Bearcat” Murray: NHL trainer
Carla MacLeod: hockey champion
David Folinsbee and Jean Folinsbee: badminton builders
Hugh McPherson: multisport builder in Red Deer and with Alberta Games
Chris Koch: Achievement Award recipient, multisport athlete
Joey Moss: Achievement Award recipient, hockey and football assistant
University of Lethbridge Women’s Pronghorns: 2007-2009 champions
