WATCH: A bookstore in Chilliwack has found fame thanks to a clever parody video! The video’s producer Emily Hamel joined Randene Neill with more.
At The Book Man bookstore in Chilliwack it’s ‘all about them books’.
The popular new and used bookstore has released a video promoting reading and books and it’s gone viral on Facebook and YouTube in only a few days.
Emily Hamel, the social media manager for The Book Man, says she had seen some other parody videos of Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass and thought it would be funny to do their own version.
“What if it was about books?” she laughed.
In a couple of days, Hamel had the lyrics written and had called upon her theatre friends to help her make it happen. “They are a group of friends of mine who have done some dancing and singing stuff together,” she said.
The group choreographed the piece, called in videographer Matthew Hawkins to help and put together the video.

“It was a learning curve for sure,” said Hamel.
It appears people love their video. It has received more than 150,000 views on Facebook and more than 50,000 on YouTube.
The message of the video is ‘it’s all about them books, no Kindle’, but Hamel said it’s all tongue-in-cheek. “When the Kindle first came out we panicked a bit,” she said. “But we find people still tend to gravitate towards the real written word.”
Hamel is hoping to continue the success of this video with their next Lady Gaga parody video, but she’s not saying more than that.
“We will hopefully have it out in the fall.”
