Canadian singer Deborah Cox to star in ‘The Bodyguard’ musical

NEW YORK – Toronto native Deborah Cox has been tapped to lead a North American tour of The Bodyguard next year.

The stage musical based on the 1992 movie starring Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner opened in London in 2012 starring Heather Headley to mixed reviews.

Grammy-nominated Cox has released six albums since 1995, with perhaps her most famous single being “Nobody’s Supposed to Be Here.”

The 40-year-old made her Broadway debut in Elton John and Tim Rice’s musical Aida and most recently starred opposite Constantine Maroulis in a revival of Jekyll & Hyde.

The musical, directed by Thea Sharrock and adapted by Alexander Dinelaris, has the hits “Saving All My Love,” ”I Will Always Love You” and “I Wanna Dance With Somebody.”
