Kelowna cop shop builder selected

The new detachment will replace the old one on Doyle Avenue which is more than 52 years old.

KELOWNA — A construction company has been selected for building the new Kelowna RCMP headquarters.

On Monday, the City of Kelowna announced that the Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., based out of Mississauga, Ontario, had been chosen for the job.

It will be located at the corner of Clement Avenue and Richter Street and will cost $48 million, adding an additional $40 per year to a city homeowner’s property tax bill.

The new detachment will replace the old one on Doyle Avenue which is more than 52 years old.

Construction is expected to begin this summer with completion scheduled for spring 2017.
