The city of Prince George is faced with two major setbacks.

Not only is it losing one of its newspapers, it’s also losing a health service.

Canadian Blood Services is closing northern B.C.’s only blood donor clinic as part of a national plan to cut costs and improve efficiencies.

The move impacts 17 workers, dozens of volunteers and hundreds of donors.

Meanwhile, Prince George’s only weekly newspaper, the Free Press, just put out its final edition today.

Eleven full-time employees will be out of work.

The paper made its first appearance in 1994, published by Black Press.

It was purchased by Aberdeen publishing in 2010.

Declining revenues influenced its decision to shut down.

This leaves the city with only one major newspaper, The Prince George Citizen.
