Two young men granted bail after violent crime spree in Spruce Grove

SPRUCE GROVE – Two young men are facing a total of 9 charges following a string of violent incidents in Spruce Grove earlier this week.

Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, police were called to a fight at a rental home, where they found “a severely injured male slumped against the front door of the residence, bleeding profusely from the head,” Spruce Grove RCMP said in a release Friday.

As paramedics arrived and began treating the victim, police spotted a man running away from the home. They managed to catch the 18 year-old, Tobin Crowe, near McLeod Avenue. His co-accused, 19 year-old Brian Ingosi was later found hiding in a closet of the home. Both men have been charged with aggravated assault in relation to the violent attack that took place in the home, and Ingosi has also been charged with breaching his probation.

But that was just part of what seems to have been a violent crime spree. Police soon discovered Crowe had also allegedly sexually assaulted two women at two different businesses that day – those attacks allegedly occurred before and after the serious assault at the home.

Crowe has been charged with two counts of sexual assault, two counts of uttering threats and assault in relation to those incidents.

“It’s not clear what the motivation was,” said Cpl. Colette Zazulak with the Spruce Grove RCMP. “We believe that the event was largely fueled by alcohol.”

The two suspects have been granted bail, and although they have yet to actually make bail, at least one resident and owner of a neighbourhood business is upset that they may soon be back out on city streets.

“I don’t think they should be allowed on bail because it obviously keeps going on – it isn’t an isolated case. He shouldn’t be allowed out,” said Kristine Trautmann.

Meanwhile, the victim of the aggravated assault remains in hospital in stable condition.

An eviction notice for five occupants has also been posted on the property, where drops and smears of blood could still be seen on the back door and front porch on Friday.
