TORONTO – The Calbuco volcano erupted Wednesday for the first time in more than 40 years, sending a massive ash cloud over a mountainous area in southern Chile.
About 1,500 people were ordered to leave their homes in a nearby town as the National Mining and Geology Service issued a high alert, blocking access to areas around the volcano.
