EDMONTON — A weather event known as an ice shove is causing ice floes to pile up at Alberta Beach.
Pictures sent to Global News by an Alberta Beach resident show ice starting to pile up along the shoreline.
Ice on most Alberta lakes is free-floating at this time of year, as melting has broken up the frozen surfaces. Strong winds this week have pushed the ice closer to the shore.
This isn’t the first time people in Alberta Beach have experienced this weather event. In May 2013, about 40 beach-front properties suffered extensive damage from similar ice floes. The ice crashed through homes, boat houses and garages.

Trina Lamarre, who lives in Alberta Beach, says some retaining walls along the shoreline have been damaged, but as far as she knows no buildings have been affected.
Alberta Beach is located about 70 kilometres west of Edmonton.
