Raptors GM Masai Ujiri says he doesn’t have ‘enough money’ to respond to Pierce

TORONTO – Toronto Raptors general manager Masai Ujirir would like to respond to comments made by Washington Wizards forward Paul Pierce but doesn’t think he has the money to.

Ujiri told reporters Thursday that he didn’t know what Pierce was talking about when he said Raptors don’t have “the ‘It’ that makes you worried.”

“I’ve been trying to figure that out,” Ujiri said. “I honestly don’t have enough money to respond to him. I think if I did have enough money, like, everybody knows exactly how I would respond to it and how the whole of Toronto would respond to it.”

Last year, the Raptors GM famously screamed “F— Brooklyn!” after taking to stage at an outdoor gathering to pump up fans before Toronto’s opening game of their first-series against Pierce’s Brooklyn Nets. He was fined $25,000 for the incident and apologized saying he used “the wrong choice of words” in his rallying cry.

All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry and the Raptors will look to continue their unbeaten streak against the Wizards after winning all three regular season games this season.

But Raptors fans are still haunted by the memory of last year’s first-round playoff loss to the Nets, when Lowry drove through the paint in a last minute drive in Game 7 only to be blocked by Pierce.

The Raptors will look for revenge against Pierce and the Wizards Saturday in the first game of their NBA playoff series at 12:30 p.m. ET at the Air Canada Centre.
