WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg man is facing charges related to an extortion attempt involving two women he met through an online dating service.
Police say the 32-year-old man was using an alias when he started a cyber-relationship with two women from England.
Videos were shared and the suspect then threatened to post and distribute them online unless he was given money.
Police say he told the women he would forward the videos to their friends and families.
The women filed reports with their police service, which used Interpol to contact investigators in Winnipeg.
The man, whose name has not been released, is charged with two counts of extortion by libel to extort money.
