VANCOUVER – Firefighters in Chilliwack spent much of the morning battling a large barn fire.
Crews were called to the building just off Yale Road around 9 a.m. The fire sent a plume of thick, black smoke into the sky.

The cause is still under investigation but Chilliwack Fire Department has confirmed the barn housed a legal medicinal marijuana grow-op that was under renovation.
Our Global News cameraman was asked to leave the area, but RCMP did confirm the call came in to dispatch as a grow-op fire.
The cause of the fire is not considered suspicious. The fire was contained to one building, but that building has been destroyed.
B.C. has nearly 14,000 medicinal marijuana grow-ops across the province.
