TJX Canada has confirmed to Global News it plans to close its three GTA-area Stylesense stores in January.
The Massachusetts-based retailer acknowledged the decision Tuesday morning.
“The company believes it can more effectively service its customers by focusing on growing the Marshalls brand,” company vice-president Doreen Thompson said in an email to Global News. Marshalls opened its first Canadian store in Toronto earlier this year. “Marshalls has the long-term potential to grow into a 90-100 store chain in Canada,” Thompson added.
Stylesense opened its first store in September, 2008 in Vaughan, later adding stores in Mississauga and Oakville. The store focused on offering designer labels at discount prices. But sources say sales fell below expectations in at least two of the stores.
TJX Canada is a division of the TJX Companies (NYSE: TJX) which also operates Winners, Homesense and Marshalls stores.
