Crown loses bid to get more jail time for Alberta family sex offender

EDMONTON – The Alberta Crown has lost a bid to get more prison time for a man who sexually assaulted several underage victims from the same family.

The man, who cannot be identified to protect the victims, was charged with multiple sex attacks on seven of his nieces and one adult relative.

He was also charged with possession of child pornography after recording some of his crimes in northern Alberta and Edmonton.

The judge sentenced him to nine years – minus three years credit for pre-trial custody and for pleading guilty.

The Crown didn’t think the sentence matched the crimes.

But the Alberta Court of Appeal ruled the sentence was fit and dismissed the appeal.
