EDMONTON — If hunting and fishing are among your favourite summer pastimes you’re going to have to dig a bit deeper into your wallet this season.
The price of some hunting and fishing licences are going up, effective April 1, 2015. The price hike will apply to many, but not all, fishing and hunting licences issued in Alberta.
The cost of a resident sport-fishing licence will increase to $28 from $25.66. The price of a resident white-tail deer hunting licence is going up to $39.95 from $36.95.
The government says the price hike will bring in an extra $2 million, which will go to the Alberta Conservation Association to help fund its programs.
“The Alberta Conservation Association does important work to help sustain and improve the outdoor experiences enjoyed by Albertans, and I’m pleased to help them expand on those efforts,” said Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Minister Kyle Fawcett.
“Hunters and anglers of Alberta clearly told us that they would support a levy increase as long as we used the funds to increase our conservation efforts,” said Todd Zimmerling with the ACA. “We will ensure that we deliver on those expectations so that fish, wildlife and habitat benefit from the generous support provided by Alberta’s outdoor enthusiasts.”
The province says fees for hunting and fishing licences were last adjusted in 2008. For more information on which licences are affected, visit the government of Alberta’s website.
