TORONTO — Veteran radio personality Jay “Mad Dog” Michaels was let go Wednesday from Virgin Radio 99.9 FM in Toronto.

Michaels, whose real name is Jay Doudelet, has co-hosted the station’s morning show since August 2006 — first with Billie Holiday and, since 2011, with Maura Grierson.

“Today was my final Show on Virgin Radio,” Michaels confirmed on Twitter. “I’m so honoured to have been with you.”

Bell Media spokesperson Matthew Garrow forwarded a statement: “99.9 Virgin Radio Toronto can confirm the departure of radio personality Jay “Mad Dog” Michaels. We thank Jay for all of his contributions to the station and wish [him] the best in his future endeavours.”

Michaels was morning co-host on KiSS 92.5 FM from 1999 to 2003 and then, for two years, on sister station 98.1 CHFI FM.

In addition to his radio work, Michaels hosted YTV music series Chart Attack and appeared as a judge on Global’s Popstars: Boy Meets Girl.

His departure comes less than four years after Virgin fired Holiday (whose real name is Amanda Dunn).

Michaels and wife Shari Doudelet have two sons. Ashton Doudelet is a Toronto actor who has appeared in episodes of shows like Murdoch Mysteries and Warehouse 13 as well as the 2008 movie Flash of Genius and Duston Doudelet plays for the Okotoks Junior A Raiders lacrosse team in Alberta.

Michaels told Global News the support from longtime listeners has been “overwhelming.”
