TORONTO – Travel site Hotwire.com says big cities and warm weather locales are the top travel destinations for Canadians this holiday season.
The discount travel site says Montreal, New York City and Toronto comprise the top three spots on the list.
The three cities are prime destinations for those located near the Canada-U.S. border.

Due to fluctuating exchange rates, Hotwire.com says prices in many border cities have been competitive and that can equate to big savings a big city getaway.
Many of the remaining locales on the list, such as Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Honolulu, offer a chance for travellers to hang up the heavy coats and thaw frostbitten toes.
Hotwire Group president Clem Bason says favourable exchange rates and deep discounts are making it easy for travellers to stretch their holiday travel budget.
“We’re seeing folks becoming more open to the idea of spending the holidays in popular leisure destinations both close to home and internationally,” Bason said Tuesday in a release.
