Honda Canada recalls 27,000 vehicles over airbag problems

Honda Canada Inc. said Friday it is expanding a previously announced recall to include about 27,000 vehicles that might have faulty airbag systems that could potentially hurt or even kill occupants.

Honda said the inflators in some of these vehicles might over-inflate the bags, causing the casing to rupture.

It’s part of a wider recall of 304,035 cars worldwide. Honda said the airbag problems have caused 20 injuries around the world. There have been no reported injuries from this in Canada, the company said.

The affected vehicles including some 2001-2003 Honda Civics, Accords, Odysseys and CR-Vs. Other vehicles affected include 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TLs and 3.2 CLs.

The recall also affects another 45 vehicles in Canada that might have had faulty parts installed in the process of repairs or service.
