EDMONTON — A fatal collision blocked off a section of a major south Edmonton roadway on Tuesday morning.
Drivers were told to avoid 99 Street south of Whyte Avenue, because of a collision between an SUV and a pedestrian. The crash happened around 10:18 a.m, at an intersection.
Both north and southbound lanes were closed to traffic between 77 Avenue and 80 Avenue, and officers from the EPS Major Collision Investigations Unit were called to the scene.
Edmonton police initially said a woman was critically injured, but issued a correction later saying the victim was actually a male senior who had died.
Police tape surrounded a heavily damaged gold Honda CR-V, along with a body covered by a tarp on the ground.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
