WATCH: Every year for Rose Lefko-Cohen’s birthday, her family plans or makes something special. This March she is turning 107 and the family is turning to social media. Carey Marsden reports.
TORONTO – What do you get a woman who is turning 107? The family of Rose Lefko-Cohen turned to Reddit to ask for birthday cards.
“It could go huge. My hope is that a lot of people would definitely see this and it would spread. My goal is to get 107 cards,” said great grand-daughter Alexis Daiter.
In the Reddit post, Daiter posted various pictures of her great-grandmother and said her “outlook on life and people is extremely admirable.”
“Please help make this the most loved birthday she has ever had,” she wrote.
Daiter posted to Reddit last Friday and has already received 10 cards in the mail, one addressed from Acapulco.
“She is just going to be blown away. She will be so excited,” said Daiter.
Lefko-Cohen lives alone and will turn 107 years old on March 19.
“I can’t believe half the things she does. She can do so much for herself and she’s still living here,” said Daiter. “I’m definitely inspired by her.”
Daiter said she got the idea because of her great-grandmother’s love for reading. Her Toronto apartment is filled with birthday cards on her walls on plaques and in frames.

“I don’t know if it’s just memories. She just loves getting the interaction with people,” said Daiter.
It’s not the first time Reddit users have reached out for birthday wishes.
During the summer six-year-old Danny Nickerson wanted cards for his birthday. The Massachusetts boy was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour and Redditors ended up sending Nickerson approximately 100,000 cards and gifts.
Another Reddit user asked for birthday cards for his grandmother’s 100th birthday and received replies from across the world including United States and Australia.
Lefko-Cohen has 10 grandkids and eight great-grandkids and receive a lot of birthday wishes from her own family. Daiter said wishes from around the world will make this the most memorable birthday yet.
“She is just going to be blown away. She will be so excited.”
