Man removed from prison to be charged with 1992 death of Saskatoon man

SASKATOON – A 39-year-old man has been charged in a 1992 death in Saskatoon.

Ernest Taypotat was 26 when he was found stabbed in the 400 block of Avenue T South in the early morning hours of Aug. 28, 1992.

He died as a result of his wounds.

Police say that new evidence has resulted in this new charge being laid.

The accused, who was 19 at the time of the murder, was removed from the Prince Albert Penitentiary Monday after being questioned by investigators.

The investigation in Taypotat’s death is one of the many historical unsolved homicides cases that have been subject to a recent review.

The accused, who police have not named, will appear in Saskatoon court on Tuesday.
