Pedestrian killed in collision near Grande Prairie

EDMONTON — RCMP are investigating after a pedestrian was struck and killed while walking on a northern Alberta highway Saturday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the collision on Highway 43 near Wembley around 8 a.m.

Police say an SUV struck the pedestrian, who was walking east along Highway 43 near Range Road 81. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV was not injured.

Eastbound traffic on Highway 43 was reduced to one lane Saturday morning as officers continued their investigation.

The pedestrian’s identity has not been released.

Wembley is located about 20 kilometres west of Grande Prairie.
