VANCOUVER – Space technology company MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (TSX:MDA) has signed contracts worth $1.7 million with an unnamed oil company to expand MDA’s current monitoring program.
Under the deal with what was described as a “leading integrated oil company,” MDA will detect subtle surface changes, independent of weather and over entire oilfields using advanced RADARSAT-2 high resolution surveillance capabilities.
Early detection of surface movement allows the company to improve production efficiency and mitigate environmental risks, MDA said.
MDA will also provide analytical reports that compare historical movement to the current situation.
The Vancouver-based space technology company, best know for the robotic system used by the International Space System, a successor to the Canadarm, also collects data gathered by satellites orbiting Earth and sells related information services to its customers
