CHINA – An elderly pedestrian was rescued after being run over by a van on Saturday in Yangxin County, central China’s Hubei Province.
Surveillance video footage shows an elderly pedestrian being hit and run over by a van that suddenly started to reverse as the pedestrian was walking behind it.
“The truck driver didn’t notice the person underneath and was still reversing the vehicle. I shouted, ‘there’s a person under the vehicle!’,” said Ke Xixia, a local vendor who witnessed the accident.
The driver immediately got out and rushed around his van to look for the victim.
“It seemed that the elderly woman was trapped, as her clothes were caught on the vehicle. So, the vehicle couldn’t be driven away. Then, we tried to lift the truck tail to release her. Many of the business people nearby and passers-by joined us,” said vendor Ke.
After the elderly woman was rescued, she was rushed to a nearby hospital. Medical staff later confirmed that the woman had sustained only minor bruising.
