KELOWNA– A Kelowna mother is trying to put the pieces of her family’s Christmas back together after a break in at their home Monday afternoon.
Jenny Beston says a thief stole the children’s presents from under the tree, an Xbox video game consul and numerous personal items including birth certificates, cheque stubs and a diamond ring.
Adding to the trauma of it all, the thief left the back door wide open which allowed the family’s chocolate lab, Asher to escape.

Beston was alerted to the fact something wasn’t right when she received phone calls at work from a woman who had found her dog wandering the streets.
When Beston arrived home she was greeted by a police officer.
He informed her that her personal documents, including the birth certificates, had been found on a suspect who was arrested a few blocks away.
A diligent officer found more items in a nearby dumpster before waste management came by for collection.
Beston is still missing the gifts for her children, momentos from when the kids were babies and the diamond ring but she’s counting her blessings that her family, including the dog are safe and sound.
She says new locks and a video surveillance system are at the top of her Christmas list this year.
