TORONTO — Sir Elton John and his Canadian partner David Furnish got married Sunday at their estate in Windsor, England.
The date is significant because John, 67, and Furnish, 52, have been together for 21 years — and entered into a civil partnership on Dec. 21, 2005.
The men tied the knot in front of a Damien Hirst sculpture as sons Zachary, 3, and Elijah, almost 2, served as ring bearers.
John and Furnish wore marching dark suits with red roses pinned to their lapels at the low-key ceremony that was followed by an elegant lunch.

It’s not known if Furnish’s family — parents Jack and Gladys and brothers John and Peter — were on hand to watch the couple exchange vows.
Edmonton-born fashion designer Patrick Cox attended and celebrity guests included the Beckhams, actors Elizabeth Hurley and Hugh Grant, comedian Jimmy Carr, and singers Ed Sheeran and Lulu.
They enjoyed wild mushroom soup with truffle cream; beef short rib and caramelized onion pie with roasted potatoes and parsnips in horseradish butter; and warm chocolate pudding with vanilla ice cream.
The newlyweds were toasted with Laurent-Perrier Rosé champagne.
John and Furnish shared moments from their special day on their respective Instagram accounts.
John and Furnish cut into a wedding cake decorated with the initials “D” and “E” and bordered with red rose petals.
Bouquets of red roses also adorned the tables.

“Amazing day with family and special friends,” wrote Brooklyn Beckham on Instagram. “Congratulations Uncle Elton and Uncle David.”

Furnish, who was born and raised in Toronto, and John have been together since meeting at a dinner party in 1993.
Furnish returns to his native country regularly but contrary to Internet rumours, the famous couple does not own any mansions in Canada. (Furnish has said he has no idea how the rumours started.)
They entered into a civil partnership in 2005, when it became legal in England and Wales.
Equal marriage laws came into effect in Britain last March.
In October 2013, John told talk show host Jimmy Kimmel he felt it was his duty to take advantage of the right to marry.
“If the laws are going to help us again, as a famous gay couple, we will do it,” the iconic singer said.
