Baby in Washington enters the world weighing nearly 15 pounds

Just over a week after a woman in Colorado gave birth to a baby approaching 14 pounds, a hospital in Washington has reported a newborn tipping the scales at nearly 15 pounds.

Grays Harbor Community Hospital says Yessica Ortiz Delgado delivered a healthy boy named Francisco Leon Ortiz who weighed 14 pounds and 11 ounces, reports The Associated Press.

The hospital says an average newborn checks in at around 7 1/2 pounds at birth.

Colorado resident Alisha Hernandez gave birth to daughter Mia via cesarean section Dec. 1, who weighed 13 pounds, 13 ounces.

In both cases the mothers and their new bundles of joy are reported to be doing well.
