The case of a Saint John man charged in connection with the 2013 death of a teenage boy will return to court next year.
Richard Gerald James Valiquette, 26, faces charges including manslaughter after the body of 17-year-old Gavin Adams was found in a snowbank on Dec. 16, 2013 following a two-day search.
Valiquette did not enter a plea in Saint John provincial court Tuesday. He is charged with manslaughter by criminal negligence for allegedly supplying Adams with a substance “not intended for human consumption.”
He is also charged with producing and trafficking the drug DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, a psychedelic compound.
Shortly after Adams’s death, Saint John police issued a public advisory about a different hallucinogenic compound known as 25I, or 25I-NBOMe, which is illegal in the United States but not in Canada.
Police said the case took a year to get to court due to a lengthy investigation that included toxicology reports and consultations to learn about drugs such as DMT and 25I.
