Bieber wins, Drake loses at MTV European Music Awards

TORONTO — Canadian pop star Justin Bieber was named Best Male at the MTV European Music Awards in Glasgow on Sunday.

The 20-year-old beat Ed Sheeran, Eminem, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams. But he lost to One Direction in the Biggest Fans category.

Bieber, who was in Pittsburgh on Saturday night, did not attend the EMAs.

Fellow Canadian artist Drake failed to win a trophy, though. He was beat by Nicki Minaj in the Best Hip Hop category, where he was a nominated along with Eminem, Iggy Azalea and Kanye West.

Montreal’s Arcade Fire, whose “We Exist” was nominated for Best Song With a Message, lost to Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts.”

Simple Plan, also from Montreal, lost in the Best World Stage category to Enrique Iglesias.

The night’s big winners were One Direction, Katy Perry, Ariana Grande and Five Seconds of Summer.

Ozzy Osbourne was on hand to receive a special honour.
