WATCH: Winnipeg police launch Just Slow Down campaign with new video

WINNIPEG – In one crash, a mom and her two young children walk away; in the other, a 20 kilometre per hour speed difference produces catastrophic result.

The Winnipeg Police Service hopes the two-minute video will prompt drivers to lay off the gas pedal as part of their Just Slow Down campaign.

“It really is a matter of life and death, speeding,” Staff Sgt. Robert Riffel said after the Winnipeg-shot video was launched online on Monday.

The video pulls at the heartstrings with its depiction of the two scenarios, but Riffel, who has had to deal with the “horrific” consequences of high-speed crashes and inform families of their loved ones’ accidents, said it’s all too real.

“It’s important to make people aware,” he said.
