SEOUL, South Korea – South Korean club Jeonbuk Motors has banned a fan for 10 years for mocking Japan’s March earthquake during a match against Japanese club Cerezo Osaka.
Jeonbuk Motors says on its website that the fan has apologized for putting up a banner describing the quake as something to celebrate during Tuesday’s Asian Champions League quarter-final match.
Jeonbuk says the fan called his behaviour “senseless” and says he made the banner in anger over Jeonbuk Motor’s earlier loss to the Japanese club.
The fan has been banned from Jeonbuk World Cup Stadium for the next 10 years.
The South Korean football federation says it received a letter of complaint from its Japanese counterpart following Jeonbuk Motors’ 6-1 victory.
