Saskatoon Blades forward Cameron Hebig on NHL radar

Watch above: Blades forward makes grade – gets “C” rating from NHL Central Scouting

SASKATOON – On Tuesday afternoon, the NHL Central Scouting released their preliminary “Players to Watch” list for the 2015 NHL Draft.

Saskatoon Blades forward Cameron Hebig made that list – given a “C” rating which projects him to be a mid- to late-round draft pick next summer.

“My mom texted me and said I was on the list,” says Hebig, grinning ear to ear.

“It was definitely pretty cool. I’m just looking to move up and keep improving.”

Hebig is coming off an impressive rookie season in which he lit the lamp 13 times, and added another 13 assists as a 16-year-old.

Being a rookie in the Western Hockey League is no easy task , but Hebig played in all situations with the Blades. Bob Woods feels last year’s experiences will only help Hebig moving forward.

“There wasn’t a lot of pressure here. The season wasn’t going as everyone would have liked so that creates a chance for you to really throw young guys into those types of situations,” said the Blades head coach and general manager.

“I think it’s only made him better for this year. (Hebig) got some very valuable experience that a lot of 16-year-olds normally wouldn’t get at this level.”

Big things are expected of Hebig in year two and the NHL Draft might be waiting at the end of the season.

“I think I’m bigger, stronger, definitely more confident,” admits the 17-year-old.

“I worked hard this summer. It’s a big year for me and it’s a goal of mine to get drafted.”

The Blades will be looking for their first win of the season when they take on the Wheat Kings on Friday in Brandon.
