EDMONTON — Two young children are recovering in hospital after the stroller they were in was struck by a vehicle in west Edmonton Thursday afternoon.

Police say the kids’ nanny was pushing them across 107 Avenue in a marked crosswalk when the stroller was struck by a vehicle turning left onto the avenue from 127 Street.

The kids – aged one and two – suffered only minor injuries, but were taken to hospital as a precaution.

“Just given the ages of the children, one and two years old, you don’t want to take any chances,” said Acting Sgt. Lonnie Schlenker with the Edmonton Police Service.

Police do not believe speed, alcohol or drugs were factors in the collision. Police say the incident could have been much worse.

“When you have a vehilce striking a stroller, the potential is definitely great to have a lot of injury and this does seem minor,” said Schlenker. “Any safety features built into that stroller probably did assist.”
