A hot button issue in Tsawwassen these days is a series of radio towers proposed for just across the Canada/U.S. border in Point Roberts.

A town hall meeting was organized last night by opponents of the towers.

They fear the 50,000 watt signal from the South Asian radio station KRPI would interfere with electronic devices and pose a health hazard.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“We don’t want these towers, that will do harm to our electronics and baby monitors,” says one resident.

“What’s happening now on the Whatcom county level, KRPI has to apply for a building permit, so the coalition is focusing its efforts  to Whatcom County to say they can’t have these towers,” says mediator Ulf Ottho.

Hearings to decide the fate of towers will get underway in Whatcom County in late October.
