Real-life escape games popular in Richmond

Picture yourself locked in a room, with time ticking down for you to escape, and the only way out is to solve a series of riddles.

It’s the idea behind “real life escape games,” and it’s one of the hottest trends in Asia, and it’s quickly gaining traction in Richmond.

The mission: enter the room, find the clues, and use them to escape, all within 45 minutes. The concept is relatively new to Canada.

There are different rooms with different themes, and different degrees of difficulty.

To create the atmosphere, everything from lasers to fog machines are used.

It costs about $20 to play —  but it’s not easy. At one facility, less than 15% of players actually escape.

There are five locations in Richmond, and more on the way.
