CALGARY – Two men facing second degree murder charges in the connection to the death of Mark Mariani are expected back in court today.

24-year-old David Reitmeier and 26-year-old Tyler Sturrup are accused of beating the 47-year-old to death in a northwest alleyway in October 2010.

Lawyers will review evidence today to determine what evidence will be called by Crown persecutor Susan Karpa at a preliminary hearing. They will also determine if there is sufficient evidence to take the case to a trial, which would be heard before a judge and jury in Court of Queen’s Bench.

Police say Reitmeier and Sturrup are white supremacists but there’s no evidence that motivated the murder. The pair are suspected leaders of the Western European Bloodline white pride group.

The two men were previously forbidden from having any contact with each other, except through counsel or to further their legal proceedings. They remain in custody.
