John Grant High School raises funds to help family of student who suddenly passed away

MONTREAL – Students and staff at John Grant High School in Cote-Saint-Luc are coming together to help the family of a student who suddenly passed away.

At just 14-years-old, Brandy Gerro died on August 27, 2014 a few days before she was supposed to start grade nine.

“I loved her, I will miss her and I want her to know that she will be missed,” said Alison Gerro, Brandy’s mother.

Family members believe Brandy may have had an underlying congenital heart condition.

“If I want somebody to remember her, just remember the joy and the laughter she brought to teach and every one of us,” Alice Gerro, Brandy’s aunt told Global News.

An autopsy will determine cause of death.

“Brandy was an intellectually handicapped child, but she was a bright child,” said Alice Gerro.

“Very smart, loved by her teachers, loved by the whole community.”

The school has offered to raise funds to help the family cover funeral costs.

Donations can be made out to the English Montreal School Board, sent to the attention of Margaret at John Grant High School.
