Review of Amber Alert protocols ordered after death of girl near Sundre

CALGARY- A review of Amber Alert protocols has been ordered, following the death of a nine-year-old girl near Sundre.

Amber Lucius was found dead in an abandoned vehicle near the southern Alberta town on Tuesday afternoon. Her biological mother, 47-year-old Laura Coward, currently faces charges of abduction and break and enter in connection with the case.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit has been called in, and officers are still awaiting on autopsy results to determine how to move forward with the investigation.

In the meantime, a review is underway to examine the steps taken by police in relation to the case, including a review of Amber Alert protocols.

Coward is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Sept. 8. Anyone who has information about the case is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
