FREDERICTON – Liberal Leader Brian Gallant says every New Brunswicker would have access to a family doctor by 2018 if his party is elected to govern next month.
It’s among a series of health-related promises that Gallant says would address lengthy wait times and access to care in an aging and outdated system.
Gallant says he would take the pressure off emergency rooms by creating a network of community health centres, and is vowing to implement an electronic system for health records.
Meanwhile, Premier David Alward says he would create a so-called Resource Future Fund from shale gas revenues that would benefit New Brunswickers if his Progressive Conservatives are given a second mandate.
Alward says half of all new royalties would be used to spur job creation and for other initiatives, while the remaining half would be used to lower the provincial debt, reduce the costs of post-secondary education and invest in research, development and innovation.
NDP Leader Dominic Cardy promised to immediately reduce the size of cabinet to 10 ministers from 17 and have drivers get their vehicles inspected every two years instead of annually.
The election will be held Sept. 22.
