Pat Bell, Global News

Four people were taken to hospital with minor injuries after a boat crash in the Burrard Inlet this afternoon.

Chris Nordlund with Coquitlam RCMP Marine Division told Global News 15 people were on board at the time of the crash.

“At about 1:30 p.m. this afternoon, we responded to a call just east of the Second Narrows bridge, where a vessel collided with the bridge itself,” says Nordlund. “Coast Guard arrived on scene, shortly after we did along with VPD Marine. We took custody of the investigation.”

Police are recommending charges against the boat operator.

“The onus is on the operator is to ensure the safety of the vessel and the safety of everyone on board,” says Nordlund. “There were a few elements here today that resulted in the collision, where the operator was lacking in a few of those.”
