Sultana Frizell wins gold in the hammer throw at Commonwealth Games

GLASGOW – Canada’s Sultana Frizell has won Commonwealth Games gold in the hammer throw.

The 29-year-old from Perth, Ont., threw 71.97 metres to claim Canada’s first track and field medal at these Games.

Frizell came in as the defending champion, having won the event four years ago in New Delhi, India.

She opened the night with a throw of 70.55 to break the Commonwealth Games record of 68.92 she’d set in qualifying a day earlier.
