AIRDRIE – RCMP are looking for those responsible for stealing approximately $10,000 worth of live copper wire from a power site near Cross Iron Mills mall in Balzac.
The 200 feet of wire was taken from the main power service that provides power to the Bass Pro Shop.
Investigators have not yet determined how the culprit or culprits were able to safely remove the wire but say they must have had a strong understanding of electrical work and specialized tools to remove the wire.
Live wire is extremely dangerous. In 2008, Calgary Police found a man dead at the bottom of a manhole in the 900 block of McDougall Drive N.E. He was electrocuted while trying to steal copper cable.
Anyone with information that could be connected to the theft is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.
